Foi nos anos 70 que os mais conceituados álbuns ao vivo foram lançados. Rapidamente nos vem a cabeça obras primas como "Made In Japan" do Deep Purple, "Live 73" do Uriah Heep, "Yessongs" do Yes, "Welcome Back My Friends... To The Show That Nevers End, Ladies & Gentlemans..." do Emerson, Lake & Palmer entre muitos outros e "Foghat Live" é um deles. Gravado em maio de 77 durante a tour americana que promovia o álbum "Night Shift" (76), "Live" resgata com aquela energia de uma apresentação ao vivo, 6 clássicos, tanto da banda, como "Fool For The City", "Slow Ride", "Road Fever" etc., como clássicos do Blues e do Rock'n Roll: "I Just Want To Make Love To You" do lendário Willie Dixon e "Honey Hush".

Da primeira à última faixa, o Foghat despeja um entrosamento dificilmente encontrado nos dias de hoje, com a voz marcante de Lonesome Dave Peveret, que além de cantar muito ainda fazia a guitarra base e esporadicamente alguns solos para as viagens de slide do guitarrista líder Rod Price, amparados pela cozinha até que discreta mas eficiente do baterista Roger Earl e do baixista Craig Mac Gregor.

"Foghat Live" nos leva à uma época de credibilidade em se tratando de registros ao vivo, já que a partir dos anos 80 o artifício do "Overdub", que consiste em corrigir certos deslizes nos tapes originais em estúdio, passou a ser cada vez mais usado tornando os discos "ao vivo", alvo de desconfiaça até mesmo para os fans mais desesperados.

Enquanto a Turquia se preparava pra invadir Chipre, em meados de 1974, Peter Grant, o empresário do Led Zeppelin, lançava seu próprio exército: Paul Rodgers (voz) e Simon Kirke (bateria), ex-integrantes do Free; Mick Ralphs, que foi guitarrista do Mott The Hoople; e o ex-King Crimson Boz Burrel (o 16º baixista testado para ocupar uma vaga no grupo).

Muito antes do Queen se tornar famoso, Rodgers - que mais tarde tocou com a banda - já era um astro do rock´roll (conhecido também por seu acordeão) e havia grande expectativa sobre sua primeira aparição depois da saída do Free. Ele não decepcionou.

Rodgers e Ralphs formaram o Bad Company - o nome foi inspirado no western Má Companhia, de 1972, estrelado por Jeff Bridges - depois de terem se encontrado em turnês e jams. O Led Zeppelin adotou os dois e os contratou para seu selo próprio, Swan Song. Bad Company foi feito num intervalo na agenda de gravações do Zeppelin, em novembro de 1973, no estúdio de Ronnie Lane, em Headley Grange.

O album, que chegou ao terceiro lugar nas paradas americanas, capta uma energia movida a altas doses de cocaína, num som que segue um modelo do Cream de Hendrix, juntando soul e country. O disco traz maravilhas como "Can´t Get Enough...", a comovente "Movin On", a suplicante "Ready For Love" e a balada "Seagull". Bad Company contou com o trabalho do engenheiro de som Roy Nevison, que mais tarde se tornou produtor. A bateria de Kirke foi posta num corredor para a gravação e os vocais da faixa-titulo foram feitos a noite, para criar o clima, num terreno das vizinhanças. Como lembra Rodgers, "álcool e drogas" eram o verdadeiro combustivel da banda, mas Bad Company é um exemplo perfeito do blues rock alto astral. Steve Clarke, da revista NME, se entusiasmou: "Tudo o que eles tocam vira "ouro". Ele poderia ter dito platina, também.
